August in Brooklyn, in April

Dear reader, I am not going to tell you how many years ago this session was, but I will say I have seen this lovely family twice since then, and every time is more fun than the last! This was our first shoot together, when little August was just a few months old.

He wanted to be held for almost the entire hour, which was fine by everyone! It was a chilly day, so we opted to shoot in their home that morning. I really, really love working in a home, because the space is part of the memory. The whole vibe is much different than outdoors, allowing me to capture a more realistic “slice-of-life” sort of ambiance. In-home sessions are best scheduled in the morning, when sunlight is bursting through the window.

Contrary to what you might think, you absolutely do *not* need floor-to-ceiling windows or a perfectly tidy space! As long as you’re comfortable with the idea of moving stuff out of the way as we go, I can make photo magic happen 🙂

At the very end, August’s big puppy brother snuck in a kiss and then hopped up onto the couch for a few frames. Pets are family and they are always welcome to join!
